Few people in this world who know the power of setting goals, yet
some of them make one or more of the listed mistakes while planning for
any type of goal – from a life time goal to a new year resolution – and
these mistakes are:
1-Lack of clarityMany people set un clear and vague goals , like I want to be
successful or I want to be famous .Many words are dragged under both
successful and famous so you must know exactly where you want to be
successful at or what you want to be famous for , a businessman or a
singer and if a businessman what kind of business you think you can fit
it , and for a singer what kind of music you`d like to play or sing
.Your goal must be sharp and direct and easily to focus on .
2-Lack of trackFor every goal you like to achieve in your life there must be a way
for measuring your progression on regular basis , this gives you regular
rewards and provides you with motivation and holds your back from
falling down.
For example if your goal is to be thin – which is not a specific goal
– and you measured your weight and found it 193 pounds, how could you
know whether if you lost or gained weight if you don`t know what your
previous weight was?
3-lack of realismIt`s very good to set the sky as your limit but for some people the
set Pluto to be their limits. Some people plan for unrealistic goals and
when they can`t achieve them – and they won`t – they feel worthless and
failure and may quit the process forever, by saying unrealistic I mean
goals that have Zero probability for being achieved like getting ripped
in three weeks or marrying Angelina jolie, these are overwhelming goals
that you must avoid, and i`m not telling you to not dream but you must
keep your feet on earth while shooting for the stars.
4-Lack of deadlinesIf you plan to achieve goals without setting up a suitable deadline
means that you allow procrastination to fill in. A task that won`t take
much time and effort may be achieved in like……..Forever.
Without suitable deadlines you warmly say hello to wasting time, anxiety, self blame and feeling lack of control over your life.
Only three words to say: Set SMART goals.Goals must be SMART, a five letter word that you must remember every time you set for a new goal and it stands for:
Specific:Definite, specified and sharp goals that you are able to focus on not just words that hold onto different meanings.
Measurable:Can be tracked, goals that are measurable are those which you can
know in any time how far you are from achieving them like setting a goal
for shedding your body fat till you reach an 8 % body fat – the six
packs will appear when body fat is below 12 % or 10 % body fat- so you
can easily track yourself and know if you are really progressing or you
need to find a new way for reaching your goal.
Achievable:possible to reach with proper effort, a goal that anybody can achieve
– if he or she is willing to – like building a successful online
business, learn how to defend yourself or building your self confidence.
Realistic:Can be achieved on planet earth not in your dreams or in cartoons and take that pill to be ripped schemes.
There is nothing that can make you return back in time or lose 70
pounds in 3 weeks or even get wealthy in one month, as I said before:
“shoot for stars while keeping your feet on earth”. Timed:A deadline is like the end line where the 100m sprinters finish at,
you must define when you will finally achieve your desired goal, focus
and work hard to reach it. Only then you will feel fully control over
your life and goals like I will be a millionaire when I grow old or
someday I will lose weight are just dreams not things that you will make
it happen.
Example of a SMART goal: Blowing off the excess body fat till it reaches 8% before JuneSpecific: getting rid of extra body fat.
Measurable: 8% body fat- or 17% body fat you need to lose if you have 25% body fat.
Achievable: Every model and every bodybuilder in the
world reach less than 8% body fat before contests -actually they may
lose till 3 or 4% body fat, so it`s obviously achievable.
Timed: The finishing time or celebrating day will be
june the first – or after four or five months from your starting day if
you are near 30% body fat.
By setting smart goals you will be one of the fewest people in the
world who set goals and know what they want in life and all you can
worry about is paying the needed effort to get what you want, so cheer
up and keep the faith.
